Create Ceramic Cups by Hand

Without a pottery wheel or any other tools, shape ceramic cups from soft clay balls by hand.

Make Cups with Coloured Clay 
Ages 11–15

Discover techniques for colouring clay (e.g. blending, pouring and free colour formation), and learn how to use plaster moulds and liquid clay to make colourful cups.

Design a Brochure

Taking inspiration from the colourful mixed-media work of Lala Rukh, create innovative brochures, using newspaper as the surface for your artwork. Draw and paste designs and shapes on the newspaper in different configurations.

Make a Self-Portrait Shadow Box
Ages 6–10

Taking inspiration from Omer Khairy’s portrait of a woman in yellow and dark blue, draw a self-portrait on transparent A4 paper. Place it in a cardboard box, and create a sense of depth by adding drawings and text in acrylic paints. 

Print on Pottery Cups

Learn an innovative method of colour printing using gel, plastic stencils and silkscreens. The technique, used in this workshop on pottery cups, emulates the monotype prints of artist Amal Kenawy.

Document Your Life through Drawing

After studying the works of artist Hassan Sharif, employ the art of drawing to document important daily moments in a miniature sketchbook. Highlight and immortalise the beautiful events in your life. 

Make Ceramics with Moulds
Ages 11–15

Requiring speed and precision, moulding clay is one of the most widely used methods for creating repetitive patterns. Learn how to sculpt clay elements and mould them for later use in our ceramic works.

Sculpt Relief Formations 
Ages 11–15

Dates: Sunday, 11 August 2024

Produce artwork that remains attached to a background of the same material in a technique known as relief sculpture. Create murals and other pieces made of clay using addition and subtraction as well as the appropriate shaping and deburring tools.

Sculpt in Wood
Ages 11–15

Learn about various types of wood, and discover how to create, fix and assemble sculptural works in wood. Colour your pieces with watercolours.

Introduction to Face Sculpting
Ages 6–10

Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of face sculpting, including how to use sculpting and shaping tools to achieve balance and proportion.
