Make Small-Scale Abstract Paintings

Non-figurative or abstract paintings emphasise shapes, colours and gestural marks to convey emotions, ideas and concepts. Inspired by The Casablanca Art School: Platforms and Patterns for a Postcolonial Avant-Garde (1962-1987), create small-scale non-figurative paintings that reflect your feelings and ideas.


Tatreez Alphabet Keychains

Traditional Palestinian embroidery tatreez is a skill many women in Palestine learn as children, both to decorate their own homes and also for income generation. Embroidery patterns are traditionally cross-stitched on dresses and headdresses. Learn basic tatreez embroidery techniques with artist Eman Al Khawaja, and then create alphabetic patterns on keychains.

Explore the exhibition The Casablanca Art School: Platforms and Patterns for a Postcolonial Avant-Garde (1962-1987) at Al Hamriyah Studios and take part in a scavenger hunt with your family. Following a brief tour of the exhibition, you will be provided with a list of objects, keywords and artworks to find and photograph with your phones.
